The college welcomes Dr. Robert Hill, associate professor of adult education at the University of Georgia to present “LGBTQ Issues in Higher Education: What Professionals Should Know and Do,” Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge, Olmsted Building. Dr. Hill is a 1997 graduate of Penn State Harrisburg’s doctoral program in adult education.
Penn State Harrisburg presents “Academic Perspectives on Community Engagement,” Monday, Nov. 8 from noon – 1:30 p.m. in the Oliver LaGrone Cultural Center, Olmsted Building. The first in a series of workshops, the program will highlight approaches faculty can use to make learning come alive beyond the classroom and help students experience connections between their education and issues in their communities.

Poet and Penn State Laureate Robin Becker will visit Penn State Harrisburg November 10 to explore how and why poems move us.
Free and open to the public, the event will be held in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Hosted by Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities, the presentation will include discussion and readings from Becker’s books, including All-American Girl, The Horse Fair, and Domain of Perfect Affection.
Holocaust survivor Hilda Mantelmacher will speak at Penn State Harrisburg November 2 about her experiences as a prisoner at Auschwitz, the largest concentration camp complex established by Nazi Germany. Sponsored by the college’s Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies, the presentation will begin at noon in the Quiet Study, Capital Union Building and is free and open to the public.
Why did a nation founded on ideals of freedom and equality tolerate for so long one of the harshest labor systems the world has known? A new traveling exhibition opening at the Penn State Harrisburg Library Thursday, October 28, 2010, looks for answers to this question by tracing Abraham Lincoln’s gradual transformation from an antislavery moderate into “The Great Emancipator,” who freed all slaves with a revolutionary war-time proclamation in 1863. “Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation” will be on display until December 10, 2010.
Penn State Harrisburg's School of Public Affairs will host a pre-election “meet the candidates” forum, Tuesday, October 26, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge on campus.
Confirmed speakers for the event include state Senator David Argall, candidate for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District seat, and Bucks County Commissioner James Cawley, candidate for Lt. Governor.
Mukund Kulkarni, senior associate dean for academic affairs at Penn State Harrisburg, has been named chancellor at Penn State Harrisburg, effective Nov. 1. He has served as interim chancellor at the campus since July 1.
Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities will host Raise the Song Again!, a concert featuring Penn State choirs from University locations at Harrisburg, Altoona, Berks, Schuylkill, University Park, and Erie. This is the second year the University choirs will collaborate for the event organized by Penn State Harrisburg’s choir director, O. David Deitz.
