Men’s & Women’s Tennis Teams Earn Academic Honors

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named both the Penn State Harrisburg Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams to the ITA All-Academic Team. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

A Hampden Township man has been charged with homicide, robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy in the killing of a man at a Pennsylvania Game Commission shooting range outside Carlisle. That, in and of itself, while unfortunate, is not what stands out about this case to some. What stands out is what, according to a report in Tuesday's Patriot-News, police say the charged man – a suspended corrections officer – told them – that he had been stealing guns for an organization that wants to overthrow the government, and that he would kill to defend his country.

Dr. Michael Kenney, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Policy at Penn State Harrisburg, told the newspaper that Pennsylvania has seen "an uptick in domestic terrorist groups and incidents." We'll explore the conditions that might lead to such 'home-grown' terrorism with Dr. Kenney on Tuesday's Radio Smart Talk.

Increasing freight levels at Harrisburg International Airport could indicate economic recovery

The amount of freight handled by Harrisburg International Airport apparently is turning out to be a good barometer of the economy.
    
As the economy tumbled into recession in 2008 and 2009, the amount of freight in and out of HIA, measured by tons handled by companies such as FedEx and UPS, went down as well.

NCAA accepts Penn State Harrisburg as member of Division III

Penn State Harrisburg has been formally accepted as an active NCAA Division III member effective Sept. 1, 2010. On July 20, the NCAA Division III Management Council accepted its Membership Committee’s recommendation that Penn State Harrisburg be granted active membership status.

Penn State Harrisburg hosts homeland security camp for kids

Nine middle and high school students from throughout the midstate this week are taking a new summer camp in homeland security and intelligence at Penn State Harrisburg. The camp is among the programs the campus is launching this year through a $1 million federal grant from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

In real life, Grandin says that autism makes social interactions difficult, but gives her special abilities that make her better at her job. Can autistic people succeed in the workplace?

Camps featuring CIA field trip available for youth

Two summer camps at Penn State Harrisburg offer middle and high school students the opportunity to visit the CIA.

The two programs on homeland security and intelligence are part of a federally-funded, security and intelligence initiative at Penn State. The courses, $130 each, are designed for students entering grades 7-10.
