To celebrate the shared commitment of blacks and Jews to freedom from slavery and oppression, Penn State Harrisburg will host its second freedom seder, Wednesday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Special Events Room.

Penn State Harrisburg student and faculty authors discussed their works at the college’s annual Publishing Celebration on March 15. The event honors those who have published a book during the past year, highlighting texts ranging from local history, to children’s education, to political interests. Students in Penn State Harrisburg’s International Affairs Association (IAA) are seeing their mock United Nations conference have global effects.

Dr. Virginia Parkum, researcher, artist, poet and teacher, will present her exhibit, "As We Remember: A Journey through the Holocaust and Its Aftermath in Paintings and Poetry," on Tuesday, April 3 in the Penn State Harrisburg Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Thirty-five Penn State Harrisburg computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, and information sciences and technology students recently applied the skills they developed in class to solve complex computer programming problems during the college’s annual Programming Competition.

Students in Event Planning Class Run the Show

A Penn State Harrisburg tradition, the International Film Festival, March 22–31, this year will feature seven films from around the world, including three that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. All films start at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown in the Olmsted Building’s Kunkle Auditorium, Room 213C. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

Musician and playwright Claudia Stevens will present the original musical drama “An Evening with Madame F” at Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday, March 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Auditorium.

John M. Vlach, professor of American Studies and anthropology at George Washington University, will present “Barns Across America,”an American Studies invited lecture, on Thursday, March 22.

To be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building’s Gallery Lounge, the lecture will focus on the Mid-Atlantic region. The event is free and open to the public.

Former Harrisburg attorney Dennis Strain will return to the capital region to present an evening of Irish folktales in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Penn State Harrisburg. The program, in the library’s Morrison Gallery, is free and open to the public.

The local chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society inducted 30 new members recently at Penn State Harrisburg.

Alpha Sigma Lambda, which is celebrating its 20^th anniversary at the college, recognizes adult students who achieve academic excellence. To be inducted, members must be in the top 20 percent of their class, maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average, be 24 years of age or older and have completed a minimum of 24 graded credits in an undergraduate degree program at Penn State.
