A Penn State Harrisburg tradition, the International Film Festival, March 22–31, this year will feature seven films from around the world, including three that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. All films start at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown in the Olmsted Building’s Kunkle Auditorium, Room 213C. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
Musician and playwright Claudia Stevens will present the original musical drama “An Evening with Madame F” at Penn State Harrisburg, Wednesday, March 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Auditorium.
John M. Vlach, professor of American Studies and anthropology at George Washington University, will present “Barns Across America,”an American Studies invited lecture, on Thursday, March 22.
To be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building’s Gallery Lounge, the lecture will focus on the Mid-Atlantic region. The event is free and open to the public.
Former Harrisburg attorney Dennis Strain will return to the capital region to present an evening of Irish folktales in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Penn State Harrisburg. The program, in the library’s Morrison Gallery, is free and open to the public.
The local chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society inducted 30 new members recently at Penn State Harrisburg.
Alpha Sigma Lambda, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary at the college, recognizes adult students who achieve academic excellence. To be inducted, members must be in the top 20 percent of their class, maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average, be 24 years of age or older and have completed a minimum of 24 graded credits in an undergraduate degree program at Penn State.

Dr. Jerry F. Shoup, interim director of Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, has received the 2012 Technical Achievement Award from the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council. Chosen for his public, industry, and institutional service, Shoup accepted the award during the National Engineers Week banquet on Feb. 23 in Camp Hill.
Dr. Elaine Richardson, professor of literary studies at The Ohio State University, will present “Po Ho on Dope (PHD) to Ph.D.,” a performance and lecture, at the Penn State Harrisburg Capital Union Building’s Quiet Study, on Tuesday, March 13 from 6:00-9:30 p.m.
An estimated 100 ninth graders from six area schools received an in-depth look at careers related to math and science when Penn State Harrisburg hosted its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Career Launch on Wednesday, March 7.
The program provides students with an understanding of the course work and requirements necessary to pursue higher education programs in mathematics and science-related areas.
