The Douglas W. Pollock Center for Addiction Outreach and Research at Penn State Harrisburg is continuing its Life Unites Us campaign to end the stigma around opioid use disorder by creating a data dashboard that sheds light on opioid and substance use disorder stigma in Pennsylvania.
Penn State Harrisburg’s Smart Home Research Initiative will host a virtual symposium titled “The Future of Aging: Smart Home Technology, Healthcare, Research, and Practice” on April 9. The symposium will bring together public and private entities that share interests in advancing innovations that improve the quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
People of color have suffered disproportionately from COVID-19, but this is not surprising, according to members of a panel during Penn State Harrisburg's recent “Health Disparities in the Age of COVID-19” discussion. The panelists said the health industry has long produced worse outcomes for underrepresented populations, adding that it does not have to be this way.
Shirley Clark, professor of environmental engineering in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, has earned the 2021 Service to the Institute Award from the 2021 American Society of Civil Engineers-Environment and Water Resources Institute.
Elizabeth Tisdell, professor of lifelong learning and adult education, has been named a distinguished professor by the Penn State Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. She is one of 13 faculty University-wide named as a distinguished professor for 2021.
Mayim Bialik, neuroscientist and actor on the television show "The Big Bang Theory," will present a keynote address titled "The Big Bang Theory: Making Science Cool (& Funny)” as part of Penn State Harrisburg’s Women in STEAM Symposium on March 30. The event will be presented virtually via YouTube Live.
As of March 1 (the conclusion of the universal required re-testing period), the University is conducting random testing of between 1% and 2% of the University’s population of students and employees living, learning or working on campus as well as those who access campus.
