Faculty members involve students in community

Faculty members at Penn State Harrisburg are challenging students to make a difference in their community, utilizing service projects and public internships. By incorporating service learning, or community-impacting coursework, into their curriculum, professors promote civic responsibility and provide students with hands-on experience applicable in the workforce.

Pink Zone

Women's basketball to host Pink Zone game Feb. 19

The Penn State Harrisburg women’s basketball team will host a Pink Zone game to benefit the Feel Your Boobies Foundation on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 12:00 p.m. versus Wells College. The team encourages all fans to wear pink during the game to support breast cancer awareness.

Napoli receives Teacher of Honor Award

Mary Napoli, Penn State Harrisburg assistant professor of reading and children’s literature, recently received the Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. 

School of Humanities Director Kathryn Robinson presents the Fall 2010 Student Speech Award to Jenny Kim

Student earns speech award

Jenny Kim, a first-year Communications major, won first place in the School of Humanities Fall 2010 Student Speech Award competition for her informative speech on plastic surgery in South Korea. Kim's speech was chosen from among those nominated by students in nine sections of CAS 100: Effective Speech. School Director Kathryn Robinson presented Kim with the award during a Dec. 10 ceremony.

Interim development director named

Marissa Graby Hoover was named interim director of development and alumni relations at Penn State Harrisburg, effective January 31, 2011. She replaces Jason Ketter who joined the Kutztown University Foundation.
