Penn State Harrisburg, in collaboration with the Penn State College of Medicine, is establishing a Smart Medical Technology Hub (SMTH) Innovation EcoSphere—a project supported by the Dauphin County Redevelopment Authority (DCRA) and the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) to drive economic growth and advance healthcare technology innovation.
Project Highlights
Design and Infrastructure:
- Development of a comprehensive build-out plan by a design firm to establish a high-tech research, education, and manufacturing hub.
- Located within a 1,400-square-foot high-bay area in the Science and Technology Building (TL) designed for large-scale research.
Core Focus Areas:
- Research and Development Hub: Dedicated to advancing healthcare technology and innovation.
- Education and Training: Ongoing continuing education programs in partnership with the College of Medicine.
- Sustainability and Scalability: Creation of a sustainable model for manufacturing and technology expansion.
Innovation and Technology:
- A robust Data Center, supported by Siemens Digital Thread Technology, and a new Center for Virtual Clinical Trials (CVCT)
- Backed by Penn State Harrisburg's Smart Home Initiative and Center for Signal Processing, alongside the College of Medicine’s Center for Medical Innovation.
