The post-baccalaureate certification program in Secondary Education Social Studies is part of the Master of Education degree program in Teaching and Curriculum. The certification program designed for an individual who holds a baccalaureate degree and wishes to become certified to teach social studies in Pennsylvania secondary schools (grades 7-12). Applicants are admitted into the M.Ed. degree program with priority given to certification-required coursework. Students who successfully complete the program requirements will be recommended for the Secondary Social Studies: Instructional I teaching certificate. Students may complete their master’s degree coursework after completing all required certification courses.
The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS).
Degree Conferred: This program is for attaining PA teacher certification. An M.Ed. degree in Teaching and Curriculum may be attained after certification coursework has been completed.
