English at Penn State Harrisburg

The English major provides students the opportunity to study literature in an interdisciplinary context where the relationships among literature and art, history, music, philosophy, media, and American Studies can be investigated. The major offers courses in American, British, and world literatures, emphasizing their cultural and historical contexts, as well as teaching students to interpret them from a variety of critical perspectives.

Here, you’ll explore the works that shaped societies, learn to write with clarity and imagination, and connect literature to art, history, and media.

Three options, including Creative Writing and Secondary Education, offer a variety of career paths.

This program has been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).
