Certification Program in Elementary (PK-8) Special Education

The certification program in Elementary (PK-8) Special Education is designed for an individual who holds an Instructional I or II certificate in elementary or early childhood education (N-3, K-6, PK-4, 4-8) or Reading Specialist and wants to become certified to teach Special Education in Pennsylvania elementary schools (grades PK-8). The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students who successfully complete the requirements will be recommended for the Elementary (PK-8) Special Education Special Education teaching certificate.

This program is recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

Upon completion of required coursework and the Internship, candidates will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests (PECT) required for Pennsylvania certification in Special Education.  Both modules are required for certification:  8011 Module 1 and 8012 Module 2.
