The college welcomes Dr. Robert Hill, associate professor of adult education at the University of Georgia to present “LGBTQ Issues in Higher Education: What Professionals Should Know and Do,” Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge, Olmsted Building. Dr. Hill is a 1997 graduate of Penn State Harrisburg’s doctoral program in adult education.
Focusing on understanding and improving relationships with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) faculty, staff, administrators and students, the presentation will offer ways for professionals to understand the experiences of LGBTQ people, respond to critical incidents of anti-gay behavior, gain greater knowledge of the LGBTQ population and construct policies and practices that create inclusive work and learning environments.
Dr. Hill’s scholarship centers on anti-oppression research and education. He explores public and social policy, new social movement learning, LGBTQ issues, activism-as-the-practice of adult education, international adult education, and the visual arts as aesthetic, emotional and spiritual learning. In 2008, he received the President of the University of Georgia’s Dr. Martin Luther King “I Have a Dream” Award and in 2007, he received the university’s Outstanding Teaching Award.
Funded by the Student Activity Fund and co-sponsored by the Diversity and Educational Equity Committee, the presentation is free and open to the public and provides a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff.
