‘Walking is overrated,’ says Matt Glowacki

At age 31, Matt Glowacki owns three successful businesses, has represented his country in international athletic competitions and drives a car.

He sounds relatively normal. Matt might even sound like an overachiever, except that he was born without legs. His simple motto is “Walking is Overrated!”

Glowacki brings his story of inspiration to the Community Center of Penn State Harrisburg’s Capital Village at 4:30 p.m. October 8. The event is free and open to the public. For information, phone 717-948-6701.

Glowacki’s message to people is not, “Yes you can,” but rather “Please don’t be surprised when people who are living lives different from yours achieve success!”  He adds, “When people who don’t even know me see me and judge the quality of my life based on their own stereotypes, their personal prejudices come into play and get in the way.”

In the past year, Glowacki has spoken to more than 100,000 people, including students at major colleges and university across the nation about why he considers himself to be just like any other guy – except that he uses a wheelchair. According to his web site, he brings an interactive program to colleges and universities “which gives his audiences the inside track on diversity and helps them feel comfortable when interacting with others regardless of their differences.”
