Penn State Harrisburg will host illustrator Brian Pinkney and writer/editor Andrea Davis Pinkney, April 24 at 11:50 a.m. in the Library’s Morrison Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.
Significant contributors to the field of children’s literature, the pair will speak about their creative process and also will sign autographs.
Penn State Harrisburg recognized outstanding employee contributions at the 2012 Faculty and Staff Recognition Program on Thursday, March 29. Marcellus Taylor, a senior sociology student at Penn State Harrisburg, has received the University’s 2012 Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. Named for Penn State’s tenth president, the award recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement, good citizenship, and leadership in student activities and is presented to just two students University-wide each year. Taylor is the eighth Penn State Harrisburg student to receive the honor.
Craig Welsh, Penn State Harrisburg assistant professor of communications and humanities, will speak on Tuesday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. in the Library’s Morrison Gallery as part of Penn State Harrisburg’s 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.
Penn State Harrisburg will host an Earth Day Celebration Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. on the Vartan Plaza. Free and open to the public, the event is organized by the campus Society of Environmental Engineers.
Activities for the annual celebration include tie-dye t-shirts, flower arranging, exhibits, and an engineering student “green” competition. Participants can also plant a tree for the annual Earth Day Stream Restoration Project.
Penn State Harrisburg will host an Undergraduate Programs Open House on Saturday, April 14.
Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Capital Union Building, with the formal program starting at 9:45 a.m. The event will present information for prospective students about the college’s more than 30 bachelor’s degree programs and options for completing the first two years of study leading to more than 160 undergraduate majors offered throughout Penn State.
Dr. Glen Mazis, professor of humanities and philosophy, has published The River Bends in Time, a book of poetry about life along the Susquehanna River and also the nature of time. It is published by Anaphora Literary Press.
The collection of poems follows the flow of time and the river as it unwinds in a small town in Pennsylvania along the banks of the Susquehanna.
Musical group Eboni Strings will perform on campus Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building’s Gallery Lounge as part of Penn State Harrisburg’s 2012 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.
An addition to Penn State Harrisburg’s MBA program will help accounting professionals meet new certified public accountant (CPA) education requirements that became effective in Jan. 2012. A new track within the program will permit students to simultaneously take course work to earn the M.B.A. and to meet the education requirements to become certified and licensed as a CPA in Pennsylvania.
Jennifer Dutch, an American Studies doctoral candidate, has received a $5,000 Alumni Association Dissertation Award from Penn State’s Graduate School for the spring 2012 semester for her dissertation “Someone’s In the Kitchen: The Value of Home Cooking Traditions in the Twenty-First Century.”
Dutch, of Hershey, is the first Penn State Harrisburg student to receive the award. She was recognized by the Graduate School Alumni Society on Saturday, March 24.
