Cecere earns honor from worldwide organization

Becky Cecere, Penn State Harrisburg head coach for men’s and women’s tennis, was named Coach of the Year by the United States Professional Tennis Association’s (USPTA) Middle States Division. The honor was announced at a World TeamTennis Match on Thursday, July 19 at Villanova University.

Students earn scholar-athlete status

Middletown, Pa. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced that 44 Penn State Harrisburg student-athletes were named scholar-athletes for the 2011-2012 academic year.

NEAC scholar-athletes must achieve a combined grade point average of 3.4 or higher for the fall and spring semesters and must have been in good standing with their team.

Flags illustrate cultural diversity

Fifty international flags now fly in the Olmsted Building atrium. Each represents the home country of Penn State Harrisburg students, faculty and staff.

Students at the college hail from two dozen nations – with the greatest numbers from China, India, and South Korea – adding cultural diversity to Penn State Harrisburg and the Middletown community.

Penn State Harrisburg to join Capital Athletic Conference

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg Chancellor Mukund Kulkarni announced that the college has accepted an invitation to join the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). Penn State Harrisburg’s athletic teams will begin competition in the CAC in the 2013-14 academic year.

The tragedy of child sexual abuse that occurred at our University altered the lives of innocent children. Today, as every day, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims of Mr. Sandusky and all other victims of child abuse.

Against this backdrop, Penn State accepts the penalties and corrective actions announced today by the NCAA. With today’s announcement and the action it requires of us, the University takes a significant step forward.

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Today’s comprehensive report is sad and sobering in that it concludes that at the moment of truth, people in positions of authority and responsibility did not put the welfare of children first. The Board of Trustees, as the group that has paramount accountability for overseeing and ensuring the proper functioning and governance of the University, accepts full responsibility for the failures that occurred. The Board, in cooperation with the Administration, will take every action to ensure that events like these never happen again in our university community.

Today with the report released by Judge Louis Freeh, the Penn State Board of Trustees delivered on the commitment we made last November when we engaged Judge Freeh to conduct an independent investigation into the University’s actions regarding former Penn State employee, Jerry Sandusky, and the handling of allegations of the child abuse crimes of which he has since been found guilty.
