Voting results point to a changing electorate

Political scientists and public policy experts at Penn State Harrisburg gathered on Nov. 7 to discuss the re-election of Barack Obama. Chief among the lessons learned from the election, they said, was that the face of the electorate in the United States is changing.

South Central PA Robotics Competition Nov. 17

Penn State Harrisburg and Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), in conjunction with the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, are sponsoring the South Central PA Robotics Competition Saturday, Nov. 17 at the HACC Midtown 2 building. 

U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs

Engineering programs receive national ranking

U.S. News & World Report has listed Penn State Harrisburg’s undergraduate engineering programs in its 2013 Best Colleges rankings. Penn State Harrisburg was the highest ranked institution in south-central Pennsylvania in the “best undergraduate engineering programs” category for schools where a doctorate in engineering is not offered.

Winch photography exhibit open through Dec. 8

A photography exhibit, "31 recent photographs, and one oldie (Some sharp, and some totally out-of-focus)" by Samuel Winch, associate professor of communications and humanities, will be featured in the Library’s Morrison Gallery through Saturday, Dec. 8.

Open each day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the exhibit is free and open to the public.

Once on This Island

Capital Players present “Once on This Island”

The Capital Players, a student club at Penn State Harrisburg, and the college’s School of Humanities present the fall musical, “Once on This Island,” Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 8-10 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building auditorium.

Directed by James Johnson, instructor in theater, “Once on This Island” is a Carribean-themed tragic love story. Tickets cost $5.00 for Penn State Harrisburg students and $10.00 for general admission.

Artist Linda Dubin Garfield presents Holocaust-inspired works

Artist Linda Dubin Garfield will present her collection Behind the Scene/Seen: An Artistic Response to the Holocaust, Nov. 13, 2012 at noon in the Penn State Harrisburg Library’s Morrison Gallery as part of the college’s Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies 2012-2013 events line-up. Combining traditional printmaking, mixed media, and digital technology, Garfield’s series of 12 photomontages present issues of reality vs. illusion, past vs.

Closures and cancellations are also posted on local radio and television stations.

During the first THON canning weekend, Penn State Harrisburg students raised a campus record of $11,094.

THON weekend breaks college record

The theme for Penn State’s THON dance marathon, Inspire Tomorrow’s Miracles, is being put into action at Penn State Harrisburg, where fundraising is in swing and student volunteers have planned a full calendar of events to raise money and public awareness. Last year the campus raised more than $31,000. This year’s goal is $45,000.
