After a breaking the college’s previous record last year by raising over $53,000, Penn State Harrisburg will have four dancers representing the campus, February 21 - 23, at the 46-hour Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon commonly known as THON.
More than 300 students from area high schools will tackle some of the most pressing issues in international affairs at Penn State Harrisburg’s 42nd Annual Model United Nations, February 20 and 21 on campus.
The event is sponsored by the International Affairs Association, a student organization that promotes the understanding of international relations.
Now that they’re all Penn State Harrisburg students, Tracy McHenry helps her son Dietrik study calculus and he helps her with chemistry. Dietrik’s twin Michael steps in to help Tracy learn computer programs.

Access to the world’s most famous insurance market is limited to registered Lloyd’s brokers or invited visitors. But a group of Penn State Harrisburg finance majors was able to get a rare look inside Lloyd’s during the college’s most recent international study tour to London in March. Their visit was possible through a connection with Lloyd’s that was made by Penn State Harrisburg alumna Christine Sears. Sears, a long-time member of the Penn State Harrisburg Board of Advisers, is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Penn National Insurance in Harrisburg.
A research paper by Dr. Jeremy Blum, associate professor of computer science, was recently selected as a Top 10 Research Paper from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE )Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for the decade from 2000-2009.
Penn State Harrisburg will mark the Year of the Horse with a Lunar New Year Celebration on Friday, February 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building auditorium. Local artisans and college students will present a variety of performances such as the Lion Dance, poetry recitals, Chinese classic dances, Korean songs, Chinese folk songs, ancient instruments and martial arts demonstrations.
The School of Business Administration at Penn State Harrisburg has installed a 10’ x 6’ high-definition video information wall and an electronic stock ticker on the third floor of the Olmsted Building near the school’s offices.
Students from 17 area middle schools will gather at Penn State Harrisburg’s Capital Union Building for the 27th annual MATHCOUNTS competition on Saturday, February 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Anthony Sedun, a 2009 graduate of Penn State Harrisburg’s Teaching and Curriculum master’s degree program, believes that we all have valuable life stories to tell, no matter who we are or where we come from. In fact, his own personal story is quite interesting. In 1985, at four years old, he
and his sister were adopted from South Korea by an American family.
Russell E. Horn, a 1933 civil engineering graduate had a lifelong love for Penn State. This was evident from the time he stepped on campus at University Park in 1929 and through his generous gifts, as recent as his 2012 leadership gift of $1 million to support the construction of a student enrichment center at Penn State Harrisburg. The $27 million, 58,600-square-foot project which will house offices that provide key services for undergraduate and graduate students that currently are in various locations across campus.
