Integrative Arts (B.A.)
Design a degree around the subjects, creative practices, and questions that matter most to you.
The Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Arts at Penn State Harrisburg gives you the flexibility to build your degree by combining two areas of study. Students can select from Communications, Creative Writing, Music, or Theatre as a primary area of study. The secondary area is chosen from another discipline that complements the primary area of study, and it may be selected from a variety of academic fields across the University. For example, pair Theatre with Music, Creative Writing with Communications, or think outside the box and pair Music with American studies, or Theatre with Engineering. Your combination will reflect your own academic interests and career goals.
Students will work closely with an academic adviser to develop an individualized 4-year plan that brings together coursework, creative practice, and hands-on experiences. Whether your interests clearly combine traditional academic boundaries or you are still discovering how your creative abilities might connect with your future, Integrative Arts gives you the structure, flexibility, and mentorship to build a path that is distinctly your own.
Why Integrative Arts at Penn State Harrisburg?
Your interests don’t have to fit into a single academic field, and your degree doesn’t either.
The Integrative Arts program lets you combine theatre, music, creative writing, and communications, or connect the arts with other disciplines like engineering, psychology, sociology, American studies, speech-language sciences, or business.
- Build your own academic path: You’ll work closely with an academic adviser to design a personalized four-year plan. Together, you’ll choose courses, projects, and experiences that create a focused and meaningful program tailored to your goals.
- Connect ideas across disciplines: The major encourages you to explore creative work from multiple perspectives, such as storytelling, performance, music and culture, media and communication, or technology in the arts. Your combination will be unique to you.
- Learn by doing: Located in Pennsylvania’s Capital Region, the campus offers access to internships, performances, productions, research, and community partnerships that help you apply what you’re learning in real-world settings.
- Prepare for a flexible future: Integrative Arts helps you build creative, collaborative, and communication skills that translate across industries where art, media, technology, and culture intersect.
