COACHE Action Planning

Your source for open, ongoing updates about how faculty feedback is shaping real change on our campus

In 2025, faculty participated in the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey, a nationally recognized, third-party survey designed to give voice to faculty experiences across key areas such as shared governance, engagement, appreciation, leadership support, and career pathways.

Penn State’s engagement with COACHE is a three-year process:

  • the first year focused on administering the survey
  • the second year — now underway — is dedicated to reviewing the results, amplifying faculty voices, and identifying priorities
  • the third year will center on action planning and implementation based on what we’ve learned together

This site reflects our commitment to transparency, collaboration, and accountability, providing clear timelines, ways to engage, and regular reporting back to the campus community as we develop focused recommendations. In partnership with schools, faculty, and individuals, we are working to identify the top areas for action and will share a comprehensive report and recommendation plan with the Chancellor for launch in Fall 2026.

Our Commitment to Transparency and Action

The purpose of the Penn State Harrisburg COACHE site is to ensure that the feedback shared by our faculty through the COACHE survey leads to visible, meaningful change. We believe that trust grows when processes are open, progress is easy to follow, and voices are continually invited into the conversation. This website will serve as the central hub for updates, timelines, and opportunities to engage as we shape a focused action plan for Penn State Harrisburg.

Our work is guided by three principles

  1. Transparency – Sharing what we heard, what we are doing, and how decisions are made.
  2. Collaboration – Partnering with schools, faculty, and individuals to co-create solutions.
  3. Accountability – Reporting progress to the campus community and presenting a clear plan to the Chancellor for implementation in Fall 2026.

The Process and Timelines

The committee will engage directly with each school, academic unit, and interested individuals through a mix of forums, small-group conversations, and written feedback opportunities. These sessions are designed to:

  • Clarify survey themes and local experiences
  • Identify practical barriers and opportunities
  • Ensure that diverse faculty voices shape priorities

Summaries of what we hear will be posted on this site, so the community can see how input is informing the work.

Using COACHE results and campus feedback outlined in the Executive Report<link>, the committee will identify 3–4 high-impact areas where action can make the greatest difference in faculty experience and success. For each area we will outline:

  • The core issue in plain language
  • Goals for improvement
  • Early ideas for strategies and resources

Draft priorities will be shared publicly for comment before they are finalized.

Working with schools and faculty partners, the committee will develop concrete recommendations that include:

  • Specific initiatives and responsible leads
  • Timelines and measures of success
  • Connections to existing campus efforts

Progress updates will be posted regularly so the community can track how ideas move from conversation to implementation.

By April 2026, the committee will prepare:

  • A campus report summarizing feedback, priorities, and proposed actions
  • A presentation to the Chancellor outlining the recommended plan for Fall 2026 launch

These materials will be shared here for full community review.

This is a living process. Everyone is invited to contribute at every stage—through meetings, online feedback, or direct outreach to committee members. Updates, meeting schedules, and draft documents will be posted on this site as they become available.
