Diversity lecture series continues Feb. 5

Midstate resident Ho-Thanh Nguyen, the founder and president of the Pennsylvania Immigrant Refugee Women‘s Network (PAIRWN), is the Feb. 5 presenter in Penn State Harrisburg‘s year-long Diversity Lecture Series.

Nguyen will discuss the immigrant experience at noon in the Gallery Lounge of the Olmsted Building. The presentation is free and open to the public. For information, phone 717-948-6180.

‘Going Back to School Chats’ slated for Medical Center

Penn State Harrisburg’s commitment to make higher education more convenient for adult learners residing or working in the Hershey area is off to a resounding start.

Introduced for the first time in January, courses delivered to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center which lead to credit certificates and an associate degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences have attracted 88 students in the initial semester of the offerings.

Leadership workshop focuses on ‘diversimilarity’

Brian Johnson “is tired of talking about diversity and about race.”

With that somewhat surprising statement, Johnson began his leadership workshop for students on campus January 22 with a focus on “diversimilarity.”

“Diversity is about difference,” he said. “So then how do we get people from different walks of life to come together? How do we get them to agree?”

Penn State University Park Student Gospel Choir

Acclaimed University gospel choir on campus Feb. 6

 

“Essence of Joy,” the acclaimed student gospel choir from Penn State’s University Park campus, brings its enthusiastic performance to Penn State Harrisburg for a public concert Friday, Feb. 6.

Penn State Harrisburg hosts ‘Raceway to Success’

“Speed Mentoring” came to Penn State Harrisburg Thursday, Jan. 22.

 Modeled after the popular speed dating concept, the event entitled “Your Raceway to Success” brought students and 11 Penn State Harrisburg alumni face-to-face with a focus on mentoring and careers. The 12:30 to 2 p.m. gathering in the Special Events Room afforded participating students the opportunity to interact with a number of alumni mentors over a short period of time.

The drinking water flowing from the tap in your home is mandated by the government to be pure and free from harmful byproducts.

But what happens when a system in Pennsylvania – especially a small public one – is found be in violation of regulations? It turns for assistance to the only centers of their type in the Commonwealth located at Penn State Harrisburg.

Current events examinations begin Feb. 4

Penn State Harrisburg is launching a series of public discussions on current events starting Wednesday, Feb. 4 with a look at the nation’s financial crisis.

Doctoral Programs Information Night Feb. 3

Area residents can learn how to balance doctoral study at Penn State Harrisburg with a busy personal schedule at an Information Night Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.

The session in the Morrison Gallery of the college library will provide information on the D.Ed. in Adult Education, the Ph.D. in Public Administration, and the recently introduced Ph.D. in American Studies offered on the Penn State Harrisburg campus. Registration for the Information Night is not necessary.
