Criminal justice lecture to focus on Flashpoints model

A presentation on the Flashpoints model and public order policing in Australia comes to Penn State Harrisburg November 18 at noon in the Special Events Room. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The presenter, Dr. Christine Jennett from the College of the Arts at the University of Western Sydney, will use the theory of internal colonialism to discuss the limits and possibilities of applying the Flashpoints model of public order policing to events in Australia.

A faculty member’s research in the burgeoning field of genetic engineering for biofuels and crop production highlights the next installment in the Penn State Harrisburg Seminar Series.

Assistant Professor of Biology Sairam Rudrabhatla will profile his work at noon November 19 in the Gallery Lounge of the Olmsted Building. The presentation is free and open to the public.

1994 graduate saluted by Training and Development Society

Penn State Harrisburg graduate Robert D. Jackson’s many years of service as a human resource professional has been saluted with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development.

Health care industry is topic of Nov. 12 faculty seminar

The next installment in Penn State Harrisburg’s Faculty Seminar Series will feature a look at financial analysis in the health care industry.

Assistant Professor of Health Administration Jill S. Rumberger will draw from more than 25 years of private sector and academic experience to discuss “Return on Investment: Applications in Health Care” at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12 in the Gallery Lounge.

Five grads honored by ‘Forty Under 40’ program

Five Penn State Harrisburg graduates are among those honored by the Central Penn Business Journal through its Forty Under 40 program.

The annual program, now in its 14 th year, selects area residents under 40 years of age for their excellence in business, commitment to the community, and professional achievement.

Commission for Women Seeks Participants for Research on Work-Family Balance

Penn State’s Commission for Women is sponsoring a study of parents at Penn State to better understand how they balance the dual responsibilities of work and family in the year following the birth or adoption of a child. Focus groups of tenure-line faculty and full-time staff will be held at the University Park campus and Penn State Harrisburg from November 11–19, 2008. This study is being conducted for research purposes.

Lecture to focus on Hispanic health issues

Community and multicultural health issues, with a particular focus on the Hispanic community, is the topic of the next installment of the year-long Penn State Harrisburg diversity lecture series on November 13.
