Externship placements are full-semester, full-time clinical experiences that immerse graduate students in the day-to-day responsibilities of a practicing speech-language pathologist. These placements take place in either pediatric or adult settings and span across medical and educational environments, such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, early intervention programs, and public schools.
Under the supervision of certified and licensed professionals, students apply academic knowledge to real-world cases, manage a caseload, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and refine clinical decision-making and documentation skills. Externships are designed to prepare students for independent practice and ensure readiness for ASHA certification and state licensure.
