The M.A. program in Clinical Psychology at Penn State Harrisburg requires 60 credits of course work. At least 20 credits must be earned at the established graduate campus where the program is offered. Included in the core courses are 100 hours of clinical practicum, 600 hours of supervised internship experience, and a master's research paper completed in association with PSYC 530.
Our program’s scientist-practitioner framework is integrated into our curriculum. Students complete foundational clinical courses in diagnosis, assessment, psychotherapy, and cultural competency in order to prepare them for the three semesters of fieldwork (practicum and internship). These clinical courses are complemented by courses in statistics and research, where students are ultimately asked to combine scientific and clinical thinking into their master’s paper project. Faculty frequently invite community and scholarly experts into classrooms on topics including human development, career counseling and the world of work, and addictions. Students also have the opportunity to take an online elective in trauma psychology, offered by our sister site at Penn State Behrend.
