Penn State Harrisburg to host Disability Awareness Week, March 18-22

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — In an effort to promote and increase awareness, acceptance, inclusion and accessibility on campus, Penn State Harrisburg’s Office of Student Disabilities will host Disability Awareness Week, March 18 to 22.

The office is partnering with on- and off-campus resources to help the college community to understand, acknowledge and consider the challenges, rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.

Events and activities will include simulations, workshops, a student panel and other activities. The schedule of events includes:

  • Monday, March 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Olmsted Atrium) – Disability Awareness Simulations: The Student Disability Resources Office, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and the Center for Independent Living present simulations to help the community understand, acknowledge and consider the challenges, rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.

  • Tuesday, March 19, from noon to 1 p.m. (Olmsted C 213) – Neurodiversity on Campus Workshop: The Student Disability Resources Office, the Center for Teaching Excellence, the Diversity & Educational Equity Committee, and Counseling and Psychological Services present a workshop on neurodiversity on campus featuring faculty and student perspectives and experiences.

  • Wednesday, March 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (Olmsted C 213) – Student Voices panel discussion: The Accessibility Club at Penn State Harrisburg, in partnership with the Student Disability Resources Office, will present “Student Voices,” a student-lead panel on individual experiences with disabilities in education.

  • Thursday, March 21, from noon to 1 p.m. (CUB 219A and 219B) – Accessible Yoga & Mindfulness: Student Disability Resources and Counseling and Psychological Services will host an engaging and accessible experience of mindfulness and yoga.

  • Friday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (John Crain Kunkel Career Center - Student Enrichment Center 212) – Inclusion in the Workplace: Students with disabilities are encouraged to join Student Disability Resources, Career Services, and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to discuss resources, tips and strategies as they prepare to transition into the workforce.
