All undergraduate students in any of the IST majors are required to complete at least one internship before graduation, though they can participate in as many as three internship experiences. Through these partnerships with industry and government, students will have the opportunity to apply their technology, collaboration, and management skills in real-world environments. Through internships, students can test-drive a particular set of job duties, a company, or a career path to see if it truly suits their interests and skills. Many students report receiving a job offer from one of their internship providers.
To meet the program's requirements, the internship experience:
- must be a minimum of 300 hours that are completed in one or two consecutive semesters with the same organization.
- must have responsibilities related to the major and provide meaningful impact on the company.
- the student must report to an IT supervisor.
- the student must be registered for the accompanying IST 495 internship class at the same time as the internship experience.
