Dr. Wolfgang Mieder, professor of German and folklore at The University of Vermont and the spring 2013 distinguished lecturer for Penn State Harrisburg’s American Studies program, will speak on campus April 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge (W-107). Mieder’s presentation, "'Let Us Have Faith that Right Makes Might': Proverbial Rhetoric in Decisive Moments of American Politics," is free and open to the public.
David J. Puglia, of Middletown, Penn State Harrisburg American studies instructor and doctoral candidate, tracks through the hills, houses, and hollows of Pennsylvania in his book “South Central Pennsylvania Legends and Lore.” Released by History Press, the book offers a full history of the region, from the folkways of the Pennsylvania Dutch to the rocky relations between German and English settlers and local tribes.
Suzan Shown Harjo, Native American activist, lobbyist, lecturer, and writer, will speak at Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday, March 20 at 6:15 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge. Part of the college’s Martin Luther King, Jr. 2013 Commemoration Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public.
Penn State Harrisburg is leading the way with its energy efficient and high-performance, green-designed residence hall. The four-story, $10 million building is the only LEED-certified residence hall in the Penn State Commonwealth Campus system.
Penn State Harrisburg students, staff, and faculty will discuss and autograph their works published during the past year at the college’s annual Creativity, Publishing, and Book Signing Celebration on March 18. The event will honor 18 college community members whose recent works include musical recordings, award winning designs, and publications. Open to the public, the celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge.

Dr. Seth Wolpert, associate professor of electrical engineering at Penn State Harrisburg, has received the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council 2013 Technical Achievement Award.
Penn State Harrisburg will hold a Graduate School Open House on Thursday, March 14, at 6:00 p.m. in the Library.
The open house will offer the opportunity to learn about the college’s more than 30 master’s, doctoral, and certification programs; meet with faculty; and obtain admission requirements and financial aid information. RSVP preferred, but not required.
On March 1, Penn State Harrisburg dedicated its new fitness center and broke ground for an addition, including classroom and laboratory space, to the Educational Activities Building (EAB).
Penn State laureate 2012-13, Christopher Staley, Distinguished Professor of Art, will present “Art and Life: Where They Intersect,” an exploration of creativity and the intersection between art and life, at Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kunkle Auditorium, C-213 Olmsted Building. The presentation, free and open to the public, draws on Staley’s 30 years of experience as an educator and ceramic artist.
