The Penn State Harrisburg School of Humanities will sponsor a public Bloomsday reading of James Joyce’s novel “Ulysses” on Sunday, June 16 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg.
Marques Paige said he was a terrible student in high school, and he soon discovered that the nursing program he tried at a community college was not for him.
But when Marques started at Penn State Harrisburg, with a tentative major in communications, he began to thrive. He graduated on May 4, one of 130 students in Penn State Harrisburg’s Capital College Honors Program out of the school’s more than 4,200-member student body.
Dr. Margaret Jaster, Penn State Harrisburg associate professor of English and humanities, of Middletown, has received The American Shakespeare Center’s 2013 Words in Action Award. It was the second year in a row Jaster was nominated for the honor, which is based on student recommendations and the quality of learning that students display.
The Penn State Harrisburg men's baseball team won its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship on Sunday, May 5 after defeating two-time defending NEAC regular season champion Penn State Berks 4-3 at Gallaudet's Hoy Field in Washington, D.C. The conference title gave the Lions an automatic berth to the upcoming NCAA Division III championship tournament, the brackets for which will be announced May 12.
Penn State Harrisburg senior interdisciplinary humanities major Cassandra Romanowski, of Marysville, has been offered a Fulbright grant to teach English in Malaysia next year. Of the program’s hundreds of applicants from across the country, she was one of only 75 who made the cut – a first-time achievement for a student at the college.
From hovercrafts to portable solar panels and alternative energy forms, Penn State Harrisburg engineering students will present 27 projects representing the future of their field at the college’s second annual Capstone Design Conference on May 3 from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Simon Bronner, Distinguished Professor of American Studies and Folklore at Penn State Harrisburg, received the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) Graduate Faculty Teaching Award.
An anonymous note was found today in the Penn State Harrisburg Olmsted Building alleging that there was a bomb in the building that would explode at 1:00 p.m. The note was found at approximately 12:50 and campus police immediately evacuated the building. A search for suspicious items and explosive devices was conducted and nothing was found.
The building was re-opened at approximately 1:30 p.m.
An estimated 120 ninth graders from six area schools will receive an in-depth look at careers related to math and science when Penn State Harrisburg hosts its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Career Launch on May 7.
