Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller, the late Harrisburg businessman and philanthropist John O. Vartan, and the president and CEO of UGI Utilities David Trego were among the graduates honored at Penn State Harrisburg's Alumni Awards Banquet Friday, Oct. 19.
Award-winning author Carmen Bernier-Grand brings her message of literature and cultures to Penn State Harrisburg’s Olmsted Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Bernier-Grand’s 6 to 7:30 p.m. presentation is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book signing.
Since the creation of Penn State Harrisburg in 1966, Clifford Jones has been a tireless advocate on behalf of the college and its students.
That indispensible legacy is being honored through the newly established Cliff Jones Program Fund for Good Government, announced at the October Alumni Awards banquet.
Penn State Harrisburg is again participating in the annual Toys for Tots campaign in conjunction with the Harrisburg office of the U.S. Marine and Naval Reserve Center.
Collection bins for the campaign, which runs from November 2 through December 8, will be placed throughout campus for donations of new or gently used toys. Bins will be located in Olmsted Building, the Capital Union Building, Bookstore, and the library on campus.

Several years ago, Gail Rosen committed herself to keeping the poetry and story of Holocaust survivor Hilda Stern Cohen alive.
Rosen, a professional storyteller from Baltimore, brings her performance entitled “For Tomorrow: the Story and Poetry of Hilda Stern Cohen” to Penn State Harrisburg Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:15 p.m. in the Morrison Gallery of the library.

It is estimated that 18.8 million Americans age 18 and older have some sort of a depressive disorder.
And nearly half of all college students report feeling so depressed at some point in time that they have trouble functioning.
Penn State Harrisburg Counseling Services, in an effort to call attention to the illness of depression, is offering a Depression Screening Day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 in the Gallery Lounge.
