$100,000 gift endows scholarship in memory of Morris Schwab

Current and future undergraduate students at Penn State Harrisburg will benefit from a $100,000 gift to endow the Morrie Schwab/Phi Sigma Delta Sigma Educational Foundation Trustee Scholarship.

The family of the late Mr. Schwab, a well-known Harrisburg business leader, and the foundation joined together to create the gift.

Faculty member offers testimony at Senate hearing

Penn State Harrisburg Professor of Psychology Richard Foxx was the lone academic expert to offer testimony during a public hearing April 1 before the Pennsylvania Senate Banking and Insurance Committee on a bill to require private insurers to provide coverage for autism spectrum disorders up to $36,000 per year.

The bill (HB 1150) passed the Pennsylvania House previously by unanimous vote.

Erik P. Keptner, senior vice president of marketing and advertising for Giant Food Stores, is the recipient of the Penn State Alumni Achievement Award presented by the University’s Alumni Association.

‘Godspell’ comes to campus April 24 to 27

The Capital Players, Penn State Harrisburg’s student theatrical organization, is bringing the popular musical “Godspell” to the Olmsted Auditorium April 24 through 27.

Open to the public, performances will be at 8 p.m. April 24, 25, and 26 with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 27. Tickets at $5 for students and senior citizens and $8 for the general public are on sale daily in Stacks Market of Olmsted Building. For information, phone 948-6470.

Publishing Celebration 2008

Publishing Celebration honors 16 faculty members, doctoral student

Books ranging from criminal justice issues, to sacred music, to terrorism were among those honored March 25 when Penn State Harrisburg honored 16 faculty members and a doctoral student at its annual Publishing Celebration.

Hosted by the college’s Office of Research and Graduate Studies, the annual event honors faculty, staff, and students whose works have been published in the past year.

‘The Color of Fear’ creator to host discussion, film showing

Lee Mun Wah will host a public showing of his internationally acclaimed film, The Color of Fear 1, Tuesday, April 15 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Penn State Harrisburg.

The film showing and discussion with Wah is free and open to the public in the Community Center in the student housing complex on campus. The presentation is hosted by the college Office of Multicultural Recruitment and Intercultural Affairs with support from the Student Activity Fee Fund.

Heard on campus – Voices of Hope

The Rev. Walter Everett and Harold Wilson brought the “Voices of Hope, Agents of Change” statewide tour to Penn State Harrisburg March 24 and asked those in attendance to think about the death penalty.

Should a national moratorium on the death penalty be enacted? Is the death penalty worth killing one innocent person?  These were among the questions the pair asked persons attending while they each profiled their personal stories.
