Dr. Michael Chorney, professor of biology and chair of the biology and science program in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology, has received a 2015 Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award for inspiring and motivating a former student to make a difference in his or her community.
A book by Dr. Robin Veder, associate professor of humanities and art history/visual culture in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities, is now required reading in the introductory American studies graduate seminar at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
With the support of a grant from the D.R.E.A.M. Partnership, Penn State Harrisburg will once again offer an inclusive post-secondary program in customer relations in spring 2016. The program provides the opportunity for students with intellectual disabilities to complete customer relations coursework in a fully integrated classroom, participate in life skills coursework and campus activities, and explore career opportunities in the workplace.

Durell Hines (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), a senior psychology major and president of the Penn State Harrisburg Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., along with other fraternity members, were recently recognized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Central PA for volunteering at the society’s “Light the Night Walk,” an event that celebrates a year of fundraising with fireworks, food, games, and a one to two mile walk at dusk.

Dr. Eva J. Pell, recently retired under secretary for science at the Smithsonian Institution and former Penn State senior vice president for research and dean of the Graduate School, will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony.
Emily Sano, an applied clinical psychology graduate student from South Lake Tahoe, California, in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, received the Anastasi Graduate Student Research Award given by the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division 52: International Psychology.
Traci Langworthy, an American studies doctoral student, received the 2015 Bertrand H. Bronson Student Paper Prize presented by the American Folklore Society for the best student project that combines research and analysis of some aspect of a music or song tradition.
She is the first recipient of the award from Penn State.
Penn State Harrisburg's Diversity and Educational Equity Committee recently hosted a panel discussion on “Race and the Media,” one of several discussions designed to “start conversations on topics related to race that may be difficult to start outside of a structured environment,” according to moderator Noah Roufos-Abbey, Associate Director of Development.
