Elizabeth Gutman, a master's student in health education at Penn State Harrisburg, is tackling the issue of food insecurity with her website "A Nourished Community," a resource dedicated to making access to affordable, healthy food, a reality. With this website, Gutman hopes to make a lasting impact on Penn State Harrisburg and local communities that are facing food insecurity.
Shaun L. Gabbidon, distinguished professor of criminal justice in the School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg, was recently honored with the 2019 Academy Fellow Award at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Award Luncheon on April 4 in Baltimore, Maryland. Fewer than 40 scholars have received this distinction.

New data from the Center for Survey Research at Penn State Harrisburg illustrates Pennsylvanians' views on the state’s opioid crisis. Utilizing responses from Pennsylvania adults from the center’s Lion Poll conducted in fall 2018, the data shows that half of Pennsylvanians know someone who has been addicted to opioids. Younger adults were more likely to know someone who has been addicted to opioids.

Penn State Harrisburg has received a gift of $250,000 from the John Crain Kunkel Foundation to expand the college’s career services office, which will be renamed the John Crain Kunkel Career Center. With these funds, the office will be able to offer a greater range of services and resources to students.
Penn State University Libraries Short Stories’ “The Other Side” spring 2019 contest winners included 11 student honorees, three faculty/staff honorees, and one local middle school student honoree. Each of the four Libraries Short Stories Editorial Board winners and the People’s Choice winner will receive a $100 Visa gift card. All winners and honorable mentions will have their stories placed on the Libraries’ Short Edition short story dispensers.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation will give researcher Dr. Sinisa Dovat $5,000 to mentor a young investigator in pediatric cancer research this summer. The foundation’s Summer Fellow grant provides funding for a medical school or college student to work in a pediatric oncology research lab for one summer.
