American Studies expert to present Oct. 27

A nationally-renowned expert on American landscape and planning history will speak, as part of Penn State Harrisburg’s American Studies Distinguished Lecture Series, on campus Wednesday, October 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Morrison Gallery.

Dr. David Schuyler will present "Pencil and Pen in Defense of Nature: Thomas Cole and the American Landscape." The event is free and open to the public, including a reception with refreshments following the presentation.

A former cattle rancher-turned-vegetarian and food safety activist, the “Mad Cowboy” brings his presentation to campus October 5 at 12:30 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge.

Part of the college’s first-year seminar program, “Mad Cowboy – Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won’t Eat Meat,” by Howard Lyman, will discuss the dangers of eating beef and questionable practices of the cattle industry.

Panel to discuss effects of city's financial troubles

What are the implications of Harrisburg’s financial troubles and the decisions surrounding how to handle them?

A panel of experts from Penn State Harrisburg will examine this question, Wednesday, October 6, as part of the college’s series, “Academic Perspectives on Current Events.” Free and open to the public, the discussion runs Noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge on campus.

Ziegenfuss receives Distinguished Achievement Award

At the 30th anniversary meeting of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics (IIAS), James T. Ziegenfuss, Jr., Penn State Harrisburg professor of management and health care systems, recently received a President’s Medal of Distinguished Achievement. The annual international conference is held every August in Baden-Baden, Germany.

Eco-friendly residence hall opens on campus

Penn State Harrisburg’s new residence hall, which opened this fall, is the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified residential building within Penn State. The 30,000-square-foot structure houses 100 first-year students, bringing the total number of students living on campus to 430.
