2007 Alumni Fellow to deliver commencement address

Shelley Clark Nickel, associate vice chancellor for planning and implementation for the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia, will deliver the keynote address at Penn State Harrisburg’s spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 17 at the Giant Center in Hershey.

‘Boobies Ball’ raises $2,200 to aid breast cancer awareness

The annual “Boobies Ball” on campus to fund cancer awareness and research raised $2,200 for the Middletown-based Feel Your Boobies Foundation.

Proceeds from the third annual event organized and hosted by the college’s student Lion Ambassador organization doubled the amount raised in 2007.

College police hosting "Quick Action Deployment" training

A “Quick Action Deployment” training session hosted by Penn State Harrisburg Thursday, April 17 will expand college and municipal law enforcement abilities to deal with an active shooter incident.

Five Penn State Harrisburg officers and others from nearby departments will undergo the training delivered by the North American SWAT Training Association. The eight-hour session will include four hours of classroom instruction and four hours of practical field exercises.

Auden Thomas to lead University’s Commission for Women

The University’s Commission for Women will be under the leadership of Penn State Harrisburg’s Auden Thomas in 2009 and 2010.

Dr. Thomas, the director of the Center for Survey Research in the college’s Institute of State and Regional Affairs, has been elected the commission’s chair-elect for the 2008-09 academic year and will become chair in 2009.

Seven SDCET students earn scholarships

Seven Penn State Harrisburg undergraduate students majoring in Structural Design and Construction Engineering Technology have each been awarded $2,500 scholarships by the Associated General Contractors of America.

The seven scholarships, awarded annually until the students graduate, are the second most awarded nationally to any college or university. Only the University of Washington, with eight, surpassed the Penn State Harrisburg total.

Students inducted into business honor society

Twenty-six undergraduate and graduate students in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Business Administration have achieved excellence in their studies and have been inducted as lifetime members of Beta Gamma Sigma.
