The theme for Penn State’s THON dance marathon, Inspire Tomorrow’s Miracles, is being put into action at Penn State Harrisburg, where fundraising is in swing and student volunteers have planned a full calendar of events to raise money and public awareness. Last year the campus raised more than $31,000. This year’s goal is $45,000.
Award-winning illustrator, educator, and speaker Shadra Strickland will lead two discussions on children’s illustrations during an Oct. 22-23 visit to campus. The events are free and open to the public.
Penn State Harrisburg’s Computer Science program is sponsoring a local site for the IEEEXtreme 24-hour programming contest on Friday, Oct. 19 beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the Sun lab, Olmsted W-210. Seventeen students from the campus chapter of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) will compete in the contest.
Penn State Harrisburg introduces Weekend College, a program featuring classes held two weekends a month and online, to help working adults balance a busy schedule with attending college. Weekend College classes begin in January 2013; an information session will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Educational Activities Building on campus.
Examining the candidates’ stances on issues of inequality in income and opportunity, the next in Penn State Harrisburg’s 2012 discussion series of election-year topics, “Academic Perspectives on the Election Season,” will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 at noon in the Gallery Lounge, W-107 Olmsted Building.
Penn State Harrisburg will hold a Graduate School Open House on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6:00 p.m. in the library.
The open house will offer the opportunity to learn about the college’s more than 30 graduate programs; meet with faculty; and obtain admission requirements and financial aid information. RSVP preferred, but not required.
