Midstate parents and their kids have a mind-bog­gling array of summer camps from which to choose. You can play soccer, climb rocks, read Shake­speare or learn about photography, to name a few. But that's so yesterday.

What about learning how investigators use the Inter­net and other tools to get one step ahead of terrorists?

NCAA accepts Penn State Harrisburg as member of Division III

Penn State Harrisburg has been formally accepted as an active NCAA Division III member effective Sept. 1, 2010. On July 20, the NCAA Division III Management Council accepted its Membership Committee’s recommendation that Penn State Harrisburg be granted active membership status.

Penn State Harrisburg hosts homeland security camp for kids

Nine middle and high school students from throughout the midstate this week are taking a new summer camp in homeland security and intelligence at Penn State Harrisburg. The camp is among the programs the campus is launching this year through a $1 million federal grant from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

The actress Claire Danes, usually so expressive and radiant, looks blank and awkward. The scene is an HBO movie in which Danes plays Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who became an acclaimed animal behavior expert and cattle-chute designer. In real life, Grandin says that autism makes social interactions difficult, but gives her special abilities that make her better at her job. Can autistic people succeed in the workplace?

Camps featuring CIA field trip available for youth

Two summer camps at Penn State Harrisburg offer middle and high school students the opportunity to visit the CIA.

The two programs on homeland security and intelligence are part of a federally-funded, security and intelligence initiative at Penn State. The courses, $130 each, are designed for students entering grades 7-10.

Award-winning author to present workshop

Chris Crutcher, author and child protection advocate, will present a Workshop for Educators on Tuesday, July 13, at Penn State Harrisburg. The event, sponsored by The Capital Area Writing Project, will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Morrison Gallery at the college library.

Course to inform educators, guidance counselors on security careers

A new summer course at Penn State Harrisburg will teach educators and guidance counselors about skills their students need for careers in security and intelligence.

Part of a federally funded University initiative, “National Security, Homeland Security, and Intelligence Communities: Structure, Process, and Career Opportunities” will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:15 p.m. June 29 through August 10.
