Advances in technology have brought “the cloud” within reach of anyone who uses a computer, which is just about all of us.

The cloud refers to any kind of hosted service provided to a computer user over the Internet. For example, the cloud allows you to back up and store data on the Internet. You can retrieve your data anytime and from anywhere, as long as you are using a device with Internet access.

Involvement Fair showcases college’s many clubs and organizations

Penn State Harrisburg’s Involvement Fair will be held on Thursday, August 28, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Vartan Plaza.  The event will provide the opportunity for students to discover the many clubs, organizations, and activities available on campus.

Open to all students who want to get more involved in the campus community, the fair highlights Penn State Harrisburg’s campus-wide committees, intramural sports and over 70 recognized clubs and organizations.

Savior, Rock Star, Hero: Who’s best at the helm in a crisis?

Harold DentonIn a crisis you want a leader who is calm, unassuming, and honest. You want someone just like Harold Denton, said Dr. Holly Angelique, professor of community psychology at Penn State Harrisburg.

Denton, a nuclear engineer who had no experience dealing with the public, wasn’t flashy or loud or famous. But when the Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear power plant suffered a partial meltdown in March 1979, Denton was the perfect person to explain the situation to a panicked public.

Alice Demey School

Preparations for Demey School demolition underway

Penn State Harrisburg has begun preparing for the demolition of the Alice Demey Elementary School, set to take place later this month.  A security fence has been installed around the project and actions have been taken to preserve and protect trees on the site.  Interior work will begin soon.

Penn State Harrisburg parking lot closure

The large parking lot on the west side of the Olmsted Building will be closed beginning Thursday, July 10.  It is expected that the lot will remain closed for one week, reopening next Thursday, July 17.

The closure is a result of the road project removing the crosswalks that connect the parking lot with the Olmsted Building. Questions can be directed to the Physical Plant Office at 717-948-6235. 

Drinking Water Supply Advisory - June 26, 2014

Penn State Harrisburg has recently been notified by United Water that our campus water supply, which is provided through Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA), has been found to contain levels of an unregulated drinking water compound, Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS), that exceeded provisional health advisory standards.
