Regional Services: Getting to Middletown, PA
Air
The local airport is Harrisburg International Airport. It is located within one (1) mile of campus.
Bus
The Megabus offers non-stop service from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and State College, PA with continuing service to locations through the U.S. For detailed schedules, pricing and ticket purchases visit megabus.com.
Greyhound and Trailways bus lines offer service all across the country. Prices and the number of stops vary depending on your origin.
Train
The closest Amtrak train stop to Penn State Harrisburg is located in Middletown, PA. This is a stop and there is no permanent building/structure at this location. No public transportation is available at the Middletown stop. If you are arriving between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, please complete the Pick Up Form in order to pre-arrange pick up. If arriving at other times, it is suggested that you take the train to the Harrisburg train station and take a taxi to a hotel until the next business day.

Bus Service: CAT
Capital Area Transit (CAT) Route 7 serves Penn State Harrisburg.
Taxi Services
Unlike in larger U.S. cities, taxis are usually called to a specific location rather than hailed from the side of the street. Taxis are only waiting for customers when flights get in at the airport or buses arrive at the bus stations. If you need a taxi from anywhere but the airport or a bus station, we suggest you call any of the Harrisburg-area taxi companies. The operator should provide you with an estimated time until pick-up (usually 10-20 minutes).
Cycling
Riding a bicycle is a popular alternative mode of transportation for students but especially locals. Bicycles can be purchased at bicycle shops in the area.
Bicycles used on campus must be registered with the Penn State Harrisburg Vehicle Registration Office. Further information on bicycle rules and regulations can be found on the Penn State Transportation website.
Driving
Every vehicle parked on Penn State Harrisburg property must display a Penn State Parking permit. More information can be found at Penn State Harrisburg’s vehicle registration web site.
Student Shuttle
The student shuttle:
- operates Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters
- departs from the bus stop located behind the Olmsted Building (Penn State Way)
- leaves campus at 9:15 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.
Free shuttle service for registered students is offered from the campus to:
- Nittany Village and Campus Heights
- Peters Avenue Apartments
- Village of Pineford
- School House Lofts in Middletown
- Willow Garden Apartments in Highspire
The shuttle will also transport students who live within the borough of Middletown; check with the driver upon boarding.
