Harrisburg women’s, men’s basketball teams capture conference championships

Penn State Harrisburg’s women’s basketball team captured the program’s first United East Championship.

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — In weekend games, Penn State Harrisburg’s women’s basketball team captured the program’s first United East Championship and secured its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, while the men’s basketball team won its third United East Championship in the last four years.

The teams will compete next in the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournaments, which begin Friday, March 1.

The women’s team captured the championship with a 64-54 win over St. Elizabeth. Giahny Correa was named the tournament's "Most Valuable Player" (MVP) and set the single-season scoring record. Other standouts included Ciani Redd-Howard, Jenna Montana, Ali Lister and Jayla Galbreath.

The team will play SUNY New Paltz at New Paltz's Hawk Center on Friday, March 1. The winners of Friday's matchups will meet in second round action on Saturday night.

The men’s team won the championship with an 84-61 victory over St. Elizabeth. Donyae Baylor-Carroll was named the United East Tournament MVP with 19 points and a career-high 10 steals. Top scorers included Nate Curry, Isaiah Milien and Isaiah Eggleston. With the victory, Penn State Harrisburg matched the program record with 24 wins in a single season.

The men’s team will take on Hood College at Ragan-Brown Field House on the campus of Guilford College in the team's first round contest on Friday, March 1. The winners of Friday's matchups will meet in second round action on Saturday night.
