With a secondary mathematics concentration, you have to know your details to be able to explain the big picture to your students. Penn State Harrisburg's math department was exceptionally good at preparing me for my career.
Toni Migliorisi,Mathematics Teacher,Susquehanna Township SD High School
The education I received at PSU Harrisburg was fantastic! I received a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences with a Minor in Computer Science. The math curriculum had a good mix of pure math topics (proofs) and applied math topics (numerical analysis). This is where I discovered my passion for math which led me to JHU APL where I use my math and stat background for national defense.

My education, especially the rigor, prepared me very well for a future in almost any mathematics related field, including computer science. It especially prepared me to be very successful in graduate school where I earned an MS in Mathematical Statistics.
I honestly loved it at PSH. I was able to connect with a number of professors in the Math and CS departments who were always approachable and welcoming when I wanted to discuss coursework as well as my future outside of PSH. I got a lot of great feedback and insight through these conversations. I would have never learned about actuarial sciences if Prof. Boman hadn't pointed out the Math Club and the conference that discussed career options. Once I did have a goal in sight, I felt like I had the support to help prepare for it. My counselor, Dr. Mareno, was very supportive in exploring courses that would help prepare me for the potential work I could do on this career path. Dr. Adams took the time and effort to do an independent study course with me so I could expand past what classes offered at PSH and gain experience with stats and coding directed towards it. He worked with me and customized the coursework so it could be beneficial to me and how I could use it in a job setting. It helped me get comfortable with using real-world data and analyzing it using various methodologies, setting me up perfectly for my current position and the work I do looking at health claims over time and various populations. Overall, I always felt like I had tons of support and I never felt like I couldn't ask for help. PSH was undoubtedly the best faculty and education out of all the higher education schools/classes I have encountered.
