I selected a degree in Civil Engineering because it provided me with the knowledge and tools to adequately navigate the construction industry. I chose Penn State Harrisburg because of its size and instructor to student ratios, I felt that my classes were more fulfilling. My degree has helped me obtain positions I never thought possible, it has without a doubt open the doors to a fulfilling career. My advice to prospective students is to pursue studies in scheduling, materials, design and cost analysis. I would suggest the program adds a course in Procore as this has seen a boom in the industry, along with Bluebeam and more of BIM drafting.

Attending Penn State Harrisburg for my master’s degree was one of the best decisions I made. It has been a tremendous experience for me that has helped me to grow personally and professionally. The curriculum was challenging and interesting. The faculty members were very helpful and knowledgeable.
I am honored and grateful to be an alumna of this program.
Working as a full time bridge engineer since 2016, I learned quickly that my undergraduate Penn State structural course work provided me a solid technical foundation. However, I wanted to further advance my knowledge in structural design. Penn State Harrisburg’s master of science in civil engineering program provided me the opportunity to take my structural design expertise to the next level. Graduate lecture topics were often immediately applied to my current work assignments. Additionally, all of my graduate lectures were scheduled in the evenings, which was extremely convenient due to my full-time employment. I recommend anyone wanting to gain a deeper technical structural background to consider this degree opportunity.

Penn State Harrisburg played a pivotal role in my academic and professional career. Having the benefit of a small campus, with the prestige of Penn State, helped me succeed as a student, as well in my career after I graduated. I was able to maintain invaluable relationships with my professors and other campus staff that led to amazing opportunities to help me grow as a young engineer. It was through these relationships that I was able to develop a plan to complete my graduate education in just one extra year, where normally it would take two or more. Overall, my experience at Penn State Harrisburg continues to bolster my credibility in my career and for that reason alone, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else.

I completed my undergraduate degree with Penn State Harrisburg so I was already familiar with, and enjoyed, all of the faculty members in the Civil Engineering program. Choosing Penn State Harrisburg made the most sense for me because they are well known for their engineering programs and I could commute from work and home easily. I enjoyed that Penn State Harrisburg's graduate degree program gave me a one-on-one experience with my professors in every class. Obtaining my graduate degree has set me apart from my colleagues and will help me advance more quickly in my career.
