Assessment

Program Goals

  • Goal 1:  Students will acquire knowledge and understanding about the major concepts associated with the various components of both the adult and juvenile justice systems through the delivery of quality programming. 
  • Goal 2:  Students will understand the importance of the scientific inquiry and the role it plays in the criminal justice policy arena.
  • Goal 3:  Students will be exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum and understand the intersections between such disciplines as public policy, behavioral science, and criminal justice. 
  • Goal 4:  Students will understand the importance of ethics to the field of criminal justice.
  • Goal 5:  Students will have an understanding of the role that gender and race/ethnicity play in the criminal justice field and the need to be prepared to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Goal 6: The higher order thinking of students will be enhanced through best practices pedagogy (e.g. collaborative learning, problem-based learning, etc.).
  • Goal 7:  The writing skills of students will be enhanced through various writing assignments across the curriculum, but more especially through the two, required writing intensive courses in the Program (CRIMJ250W and 450W).
  • Goal 8: Graduates of the Program will be prepared for either work in the field of criminal justice or placement in criminal justice or related graduate programs.
