HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Penn State Harrisburg police department will host a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) self-defense for women course from 1 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 11 and 12 in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge on campus.
The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, then progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training.
Somewhere in America, a woman is sexually assaulted every 2 minutes, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. With over 3,500 instructors certified and nearly 160,000 women trained, R.A.D. Systems is the country’s largest and fastest growing self-defense program for women and children.
