James M. Ruiz, associate professor of criminal justice at Penn State Harrisburg, recently received a regional award for outstanding accomplishments in teaching and significant contributions to criminal justice education.
The Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences recognized Ruiz with the 2010 Regional Fellow Award, one of four awards presented at the association’s annual meeting in Portsmouth, R.I.

A Hampden Township man has been charged with homicide, robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy in the killing of a man at a Pennsylvania Game Commission shooting range outside Carlisle. What stands out is what, according to a report in Tuesday's Patriot-News, police say the charged man – a suspended corrections officer – told them – that he had been stealing guns for an organization that wants to overthrow the government, and that he would kill to defend his country.
