Penn State Harrisburg, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Center for Schools and Communities are partnering to present a free research symposium August 12 in Harrisburg aimed at enhancing education and employment for English language and bilingual learners.

Penn State will receive a 1.2 percent increase in state appropriation for the 2008-09 fiscal year as a result of the new budget approved by the Senate and the House and signed by Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell over the holiday weekend. The total appropriation for Penn State for this fiscal year is $338.4 million, an increase of $4.1 million over last year.
Penn State Harrisburg graduate John Mason, associate dean for graduate studies, research and outreach in the University’s College of Engineering, has been named associate provost and vice president of research for Auburn University.
Mason will begin his appointment at Auburn on Sept. 2.
Schoolteachers and administrators will be introduced to the importance of the educational integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at a Governor’s Institute July 28 through August 1 at Penn State Harrisburg and the Hershey Lodge.
