Dr. Shashi S. Marikunte, senior lecturer of civil engineering in the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, will present "Best Practices for Quantitative Assessment of Student Outcomes" on Thursday, September 25 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Room 102, Educational Activities Building (EAB).
Dr. Jane M. Wilburne, associate professor of mathematics and education in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, will present “Building Teacher Capacity to Promote Common Core Mathematical Practices in the Classroom” on Wednesday, September 24 from Noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge, Olmsted Building on campus.
Penn State Harrisburg’s Commission for Women will present RAINN Day events on September 25. RAINN Day is an annual event used to inform students about sexual violence on college campuses. It provides students with the resources needed to reduce the risk of being assaulted, or to help someone who is a victim of sexual violence. Each year, RAINN Day reaches over 1,000,000 students in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Enjoy a round of golf while supporting local athletes at the fifth annual Penn State Harrisburg Golf Tournament, sponsored by Brenner Family of Dealerships, Mazzitti and Sullivan, and Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, Ltd. The tournament will be held Sept. 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the Colonial Golf and Tennis Club. All proceeds support Penn State Harrisburg’s growing NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic program, which includes numerous graduates from high schools in the midstate.
Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Behavioral Sciences and Education will present “Perspectives on Autism” on Wednesday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the library Morrison Gallery.
The presentation and discussion will focus on:
Autism and its impact on individuals with Autism and their families
Behavioral interventions and appropriate education programs that provide support and lead to success
Penn State Harrisburg will present a Diverse Voices in Literature Seminar with renowned author, Jacqueline Woodson on Thursday, September 25 in the library Morrison Gallery. There will be two presentations followed by a book signing. The afternoon session will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and the evening presentation will take place from 5:40 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Several Penn State Harrisburg School of Business Administration accounting students have been honored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).
Patrick A. Klinger, of Elizabethtown, PA, was awarded a $5,000 Multi-Year Renewable Scholarship, as well as the Joseph F. Taricani Memorial Scholarship, a one-year award of $2,000.
Two Penn State Harrisburg students have reported to University Police that they have received calls while at their off-campus housing unit from someone identifying themselves as a police officer, saying that they had a warrant for the students’ arrest and demanding that they pay a sum of money in the form of prepaid credit cards to avoid arrest.
Penn State Harrisburg will hold a Graduate School Open House on Tuesday, September 9 at 6 p.m. in the campus library.
The open house will offer the opportunity to learn about the college’s more than 30 master’s, doctoral, and certification programs; meet with faculty; and obtain admission requirements and financial aid information. RSVP preferred, but not required.
Open house attendees receive an application fee waiver.
