Penn State Harrisburg began participating in the Penn State chapter of EnvironMentors in 2019. The program links a high school student with an undergraduate student mentor and a faculty mentor for an environmentally themed research project that takes place over the course of the academic year. The work culminates in a research symposium at University Park.

Several students in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Science, Engineering and Technology took the two top spots in the Brown Bag Competition at the annual Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Region 1 and 2's Student Activities Conference and Competition held in April at Villanova University.
Nichole Ginnan, research project manager at the One Health Microbiome Center in the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, received the 2024 USAC Staff Excellence Award.
