A bust of Oliver LaGrone

Artists’ legacies honored through sculpture donation

Penn State Harrisburg alums Doug Knull and Evelyn Toro Knull donated a bronze bust of Oliver LaGrone, an African American sculptor, poet and educator, that was sculpted by Ruth Fackler Sourbeer, an artist and Doug Knull’s grandmother. The bust is now on display in the Oliver LaGrone Cultural Arts Center, in the college’s Olmsted Building.

Original play inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. set for Jan. 25 at Harrisburg

 In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities, the Kulkarni Cultural Arts Series, and Sankofa African American Theatre Company will present “The Call of the Crusades,” an original play written by award-winning playwright Sharia Benn. Penn State Harrisburg students also assisted with the writing of the play and will contribute to the cast.

Penn State Harrisburg announces fall 2024 student marshals

Penn State Harrisburg has selected six graduates to serve as student marshals at the fall 2024 commencement ceremony. The graduates will bear the banners representing each academic school and, together with the faculty marshals, lead the graduating students during the ceremony processional.
