Penn State Harrisburg receives $600,000 NSF grant for STEM education

Penn State Harrisburg has received a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to attract and retain academically talented students of under-represented groups into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors. The grant, with additional funding from the college, will provide annually 19 renewable scholarships averaging more than $8,000 each to qualified students with financial need.

Penn State Harrisburg senior engineering and engineering technology students may be on to something big. Projects they’ve developed during their capstone design course have the potential to save lives in the workplace, make land and air transportation safer, and aid people with disabilities.

On Saturday April 21, students presented these senior projects and more during the college’s first Engineering Capstone Design Conference on the Penn State Harrisburg campus in Middletown.
