MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg will host the 86th annual Pennsylvania Political Science Association conference on April 11.
The daylong event begins at 8 a.m. in the Olmsted Building on campus. The annual gathering of political scientists will include panels and roundtable discussions on subjects such as the 2024 election, Pennsylvanian politics and policy, international relations, immigration, cannabis policy and much more.
At 12:15 p.m., the keynote speaker will be John DiIulio, Frederic Fox leadership professor of politics, religion and civil society at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his academic career, DiIulio served as the first director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives in the George W. Bush administration. He also worked with the Obama administration to expand the office. DiIulio’s presentation is titled “Bring Back the Bureaucrats Revisited: The Case for Reforming, Not Razing, the Federal Civil Service.”
At 2 p.m., a panel discussion on the 2024 election will include panelists DiIulio; Michael Hagen, associate professor of political science, Temple University; L. Marvin Overby, director of the School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg; and Berwood A. Yost, director of the Floyd Institute's Center for Opinion Research at Franklin and Marshall College. Thomas J. Baldino, retired professor of political science from Wilkes University, will be moderator.
