Libraries to present workshop on predatory publishing for Harrisburg faculty

HARRISBURG, Pa. — We’ve all seen publishing opportunities that seem too good to be true. How can you avoid falling for an offer from a predatory publisher and damaging your scholarly reputation? What can you do if you realize that you, a student or a colleague has submitted to or published an article in a predatory journal?

On April 23, Ana Enriquez and Danielle Steinhart from Penn State University Libraries’ Office of Scholarly Communications and Copyright will present a workshop for Penn State Harrisburg faculty on avoiding predatory publishers. The workshop will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Morrison Gallery at Madlyn L. Hanes Library, Penn State Harrisburg.

Participants will practice evaluating publishing offers and other solicitations sent to researchers — such as conference invites and editorial board nominations — to determine whether they are predatory. Participants are encouraged to submit examples to Ana ([email protected]) in advance for evaluation during the workshop.

Penn State Harrisburg faculty can register here for the workshop.
