New honor society for computing and information disciplines at Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Business Administration recently was approved for a new chapter of the international honor society for computing and information disciplines, Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE). Chartered in spring 2020 as the Sigma Chapter of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by the Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the Sigma Chapter of UPE will recognize and reward academic excellence and professionalism of students, faculty, and alumni in computing and information disciplines. 

Undergraduate students majoring in computer science, cybersecurity analytics and operations, human-centered design and development, information systems, information sciences and technology, and security and risk analysis will be eligible for membership, as will graduate students majoring in computer science and information systems. 

“The Sigma Chapter of UPE will help develop the next generation of computing and information technology professionals by recognizing and rewarding superior academic scholarship, professionalism, and contribution to the computing and information disciplines,” said Roderick Lee, director of information technology degree programs and UPE faculty adviser. “Moreover, students will be encouraged to apply for national UPE scholarships and compete in the annual Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon was first organized at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, in 1967 and now consists of chapters in various colleges and universities in North America and overseas. UPE is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and a charter member of The International Federation of Engineering Education Societies.
